Biography:

All the pieces I produce are one off, it is often made specifically for a particular client or to explore an idea or concept that presents itself to me at particular time.

For over 40 years this is the way I have worked and that together with the high quality of making, the work is clearly identifiable as an Alan Craxford piece.

The work has constantly changed and developed as the Alchemical process from which it comes also changes. Recently I have been working on Paper Cuts and their influence has been significant, taking pieces off in a whole new direction of mirrors, reflections and illusion.

Colour and materials are important in what I do, whether making something subtle or show stopping. My use of hand engraving is unusual, its light reflecting qualities bringing surfaces alive. Coloured gemstones, different metal colours and exacting plating techniques all contribute to the individual nature of the pieces and through them the stories they tell.

The telling of stories within the work gives meaning and creates a value unique to the customer. Each person then knows what they have of mine has been produced through a process of listening and searching for a meaning in a way that is very particular to them.

Enjoy looking at the pieces shown here and if your interest is piqued do contact me.
