Alex Brogden

Designer

The Goldsmiths Company

Biography:

My work often reflects a stylised abstraction of natural forms. I see parallels between my own work and how these things are explored in some ancient and contemporary architecture. I am fascinated by the process of making and the discovery of means to achieve new forms in silver. I often combine a variety of techniques to arrive at a desired end. Development of personal ideas tends to produce quite sculptural pieces but this then informs the design of commissioned work which is often more obviously functional. I try to achieve work with a clear, strong form where the often complex means of making is not an immediately obvious distraction from a more quiet presence. To read the profile of Alex Brogden and his work published in the Goldsmiths' Review 2006/2007,
