Biography:

Esther's award-winning contemporary silverware is constructed entirely by hand using traditional techniques. She is inspired by the spatial interaction between objects and structures in the natural and man-made landscape, the tones and textures of natural materials, and also by architecture and abstract art. Each item is has its own character & finish, ranging from deeply filed and embossed to a soft satin sheen. Skilfully scored and fused folds contrasted with gently raised arcs and sweeping curves allow a single sheet of silver to be shaped into many varied forms. A combination of hand finishing and distinctive acid-etching techniques based upon print-making create intricately patterned and pleasingly tactile surfaces. The soft gleam of the textured surfaces combines with the play of light over crisp folds and soft curves to create a sense of animation and warmth in the pieces, and to highlight the luminous beauty of the silver, so that the items are a pleasure to look at, handle and use. Specially commissioned pieces are owned by The Goldsmiths Company’s Modern Collection, and the Museum of Modern Art & Design, Munich, where she gained recognition after winning the Bavarian State Prize and Talente Award. Esther has also received awards from the Goldsmiths Company, the Arts Council,  and The British Jewellers' Association. A regular at the annual Goldsmiths Fair, she has recently exhibited at The V&A, Christie’s and the new Goldsmiths Centre.
