Biography:

I love working with silver because it has a malleability which allows for a huge variation of design possibilities. It is a pleasure to handle as a maker and in my pieces I want the physical and sensual properties to be as important as any functional role. How an object feels in the hand; its shape, weight, balance and texture are all themes which I try to bring together. To develop a design I begin with drawings then models. The three dimensional form is always my starting point. The structure and volume of a piece can then be enhanced by finishing the surface. Silver is a beautiful material which can be polished to a high shine reflecting all around it or textured, patterned or given a matt bloom to accentuate its natural whiteness. My silversmithing is made to commission as well as in small batch runs and speculatively for exhibitions. The jewellery ranges are produced around changing themes. I work mainly in silver with pearls and other semi precious materials but use gold as well, and work to commission.
