Biography:

Fred Rich is regarded as one of Britain's most dynamic and exciting art enamellers. His work is highly prized both in the domestic market and on the international stage where he has a number of important collectors. As his numerous awards testify, Fred Rich is one of those rare breeds of people being a highly skilled designer and master enameller, working happily in the distinctive fields of silver, jeweller and art medals. In addition, his skills as a carver, engraver and draughtsman make him one of the most versatile craftsmen in the country today. His work is often representational, and sometimes abstract, but always highly individual. He delights in natural forms and has a highly charged sense of colour. Although decorative, function of form is given a high priority during the design process. Many pieces are made to private commission. The subject matter and designs are talked through with the client, adding personal touches here and there, resulting in an extremely personal piece to be treasured by the client and generations to come. The larger pieces can take many months of painstaking and arduous work resulting in a very limited output.

Specialist Techniques:

Enamelling in a variety of forms including cloisonné, champlevé and basse-taille. Wax carving, chasing and engraving.
