Biography:

Grant Braithwaite has been an established Silversmith for over ten years now. Working solely in this medium has given him an empathic insight into the capabilities of the materials. Through exploring traditional techniques of raising, sinking, forging, chasing amongst others. He chooses to have fun with the work, exploring conventional and unconventional themes, as well as referencing traditional practices, use and aesthetics in domestic silver.Sometimes working with other materials such as native British timbers, which he has done from the outset.Grant's cufflinks are entirely unique. An extension of his silverware, where he is able to explore freely different ideas in forms and creative techniques. There is an emphasis on function and wearability. Each piece works as a whole, comfortable and yet easy to wear, they are tactile and playful in design and in use. The symmetry is an integral part of the design, where importance is placed in equal measures on both the front and back of the link. As a result these beautiful miniature sculptural objects look as good sitting on a bureau or tallboy as they do on a shirt.
