Jill Newbrook

Designer

The Goldsmiths Company

ADDRESS :

London

Biography:

Through my work I tend to emphasise surface decoration, while keeping the shapes bold and simple. The reference for the etched or embossed patterns comes from ancient Japanese textile patterns. The use of these, fine or bold, strictly geometric or random, provides a wide vocabulary to work with. Contrasts, be they textures, colours, silver or gold metal, tend to dictate the starting point of a piece, but it will usually change and evolve during the making process, an essential and exciting freedom while keeping in mind that the piece must fulfil its intended function.

Specialist Techniques:

Embossing, etching and texturing.

Awards:

2006
