Karen Simpson

Karen Simpson

Designer

The Goldsmiths Company

Biography:

Karen’s new collection enjoys exploiting simple techniques such as hand-piercing, soldering and manipulation of sheet silver to create spectacular, sculptural but ultimately functional forms.

Inspiration for design can be found in both man-made and natural forms but particular interest is paid in combining their minimalistic clean lines and effortless shapes. Strong structure and use of skill is important in the construction of stimulating objects.

Karen studied at The Glasgow School of Art and is constantly developing the initial ideas that inspired her then. Currently she is experimenting with new technologies such as water-jet cutting methods and computer aided drawing, combining these with traditional techniques to produce new work.
