Biography:

My current body of work draws its influences from nature, especially the deep sea environment and its cycles of growth, maturity and decay. Recently I have been particularly interested in exploring ways to combine these silicone shapes with delicate metalwork. The resulting contrast between simple wire and sheet material structures and translucent, yet vibrantly coloured and textured silicone shapes is a defining aspect of my work. Locial and rhythmic structures found in nature have influenced recent developments in my metalwork, with increasingly more intricate wire structures representing the pivotal element of this new body of work. Vibrant splashes of colour are introduced through the use of torch fired enamel, whereas more subtle changes in tone are achieved through the introduction of 18ct gold accents to cotrast the purity and whiteness of sterling silver.

My personal aim is to fully explore and push the boundaries of jewelleery making. I achieve this through creating large scale, sculptural pieces. In these, fragile wire cage units and quivering silicone sway with the movement of the wearer, thus creating the illusion of a living organism. I have come to see the body of the wearer as a rock on which my jewellery creations grow and flourish. By bringing together different materials I hope to develop an aesthetic which does not merely emulate nature, but instead aims to mutate the artificial into the natural. The juxtaposition of the human figure and the natural environment is at the centre of my artistic vision.
