Biography:

Maya crafts timeless pieces of jewellery that are both understated yet compelling in their delicate lines and textural detailing. Inspired by the enduring, cyclical nature of the world around her, Maya works intuitively and organically, using a palette of tonal golds and naturally coloured precious stones. With an eye for restrained detail, intriguing in its intricacy, Maya introduces unconventional techniques such as gold dust fusing to create luxurious, enduring classics that transcend time and passing trends. Maya undertakes commissions using the same palette of materials that she uses in her main collections. Diamond colours include cognac, yellow, grey and white; cuts and sizes can be tailored and gold options are white, rose and yellow. Born in 1977 to a poet and an artist, Maya grew up in a distinctly creative atmosphere; she was also influenced early on by her jeweller grandmother. In 1997, Maya attended Camberwell College of Art where she gained a BA in Silversmithing and Metalwork. Following this, she worked as a freelance prop maker with the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre. In 2004, she attended Bishopsland and completed a year’s silversmithing and jewellery residency before spending two further years in Sheffield at the Yorkshire Art Space. In 2008 she set up her first workshop at Cockpit Arts in London.
